  • Use a conventional font e.g. trebuchet, verdana, cambria or arial.

  • Write in the third person

  • Use bullet points where possible

  • Use headings to break down the nature of your work into practice areas and ensure those headings are clear and consistent

  • State degree level (or any higher qualifications) obtained and the full name of the establishment from which it was gained.

  • The ideal length is 2-4 pages.

  • Use bullet points

  • Ensure qualifications and employment history are dated and put them in reverse chronological order.

  • Include details of example cases; value of deals; scope of responsibility

  • Detail business development initiatives.  E.g. In house and external seminars, articles drafted, podcasts, any profile raising initiatives

  • Detail management experience

  • Include details of any potential following and put an honest figure on it.  Even if a firm is not actively recruiting in a particular area they often have a watching brief for candidates who can add value to their business.

  • Include your interests and details of any foreign language proficiency. ​
